Fun Times at the Local Goodwill!

One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday is to visit my local Goodwill Superstore.  My kids have even gotten in on the fun, and they have an opportunity to "earn" money to spend on their visit, but they can also "lose" money as well!  (They usually even out with about $1 each on a good day :) I LOVE Goodwill because you never know what you are going to find, IF you have the patience to go down EVERY aisle scouring the piles of "junk".  If you like scavenger hunts, you'll like Goodwill!  I often wonder after finding some awesome stuff, what were these people thinking???  I guess what they say is true, "another man's trash is another man's treasure" (or woman's in this case).  Here are some of the scores I got for anywhere between $1 - $5 max:
Each of these glass bottles for $1 each
Love this "cottage door" shelf, and metal basket
Sweet little nest in perfect green color

Awesome "retro" clock
Decorative pitcher/bowl thingy (lime green interior)
Small copper pitcher
Hooties
Tweeties

Goodwill has vases galore, in almose every color & design, which I used above my kitchen cabinets here

& Here (just ignore the ugly popcorn ceiling)

This little shelf looked very sad, and with a few coats of army green & baskets, it makes a great above toilet shelf
This shelf was ugly brown, but with a few coats of black paint, it looks great!

And finally, Goodwill has lots of new items also, that is, if you are willing to spend a little more green

Tips for Goodwill Shopping:
  • Make sure you have PLENTY of time to browse.
  • If you see something you think you MAY like, you better grab it, because if you decide later you want it after all, chances are it will not be there anymore - & you will be so sad :(
  • They bring out new things from the back ALL THE TIME. If you are looking for a big furniture item, hang by the back, and grab the sales sticker when you see something you want. You then bring the sales sticker to the front counter to pay.  But remember, you better be back pick up the big item within 48 hours, or they will put it back out on the floor, and you have just made a cash donation!
  • Look for 50% off sales, they have them usually during the week.
  • Make sure to get a frequent shopper card, & get it stamped for every purchase. When it is filled up, you get 10% off your final purchase!
  • Finally, don't feel guilty if you end up spending a lot of money in Goodwill, it is for a good cause!
